Steelers Edge Out Phoenix in Defensive Thriller, Win 21–14

After a dominant 48–7 victory over the Wetterau Bulls on June 1st – a game Team Manager Mike Wagner called “very important for us” – the Dudelange Steelers faced a much tougher opponent in Mittelrhein Phoenix this past Saturday. In a hard-fought battle, the Steelers held on for a 21–14 win, improving their season record with another strong team performance.

Phoenix started the game strong, capitalizing on great field position to score a touchdown and convert the 2-point attempt, taking an early 0–8 lead. The Steelers took a few minutes to find their rhythm but responded with a touchdown pass to Romain Lamponi. The 2-point try was unsuccessful, bringing the score to 6–8.

Momentum shifted in the second quarter as Dudelange took control. Wide receiver Maxime Grandjean caught a touchdown pass, followed by a successful 2-point conversion from Daniel Vahtaric to make it 14–8. Shortly after, it was Adrian Davis who broke through the Phoenix defense after a reception and powered his way into the end zone for the team’s third touchdown of the day – 21–8 Steelers.

Mittelrhein made key halftime adjustments, particularly in the passing game. With five minutes left in the fourth quarter, they narrowed the gap with another touchdown, although the 2-point conversion failed – 21–14.

The final minute saw a tense climax. Phoenix marched downfield and reached the Steelers’ 9-yard line with less than 20 seconds on the clock. But the Dudelange defense came up clutch, stopping all four attempts into the end zone and sealing the win.
